The Carolina Panthers will play their first home game of the season Saturday, August 29  against the Baltimore Ravens at Bank of America Stadium. The game starts at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are priced from $51-$90 and there are still some tickets available. In addition to coming out and enjoying the game, you may bring new school supplies with you to donate. You can drop off school supplies in the yellow bins at each gate. Supplies will then be donated to Classroom Central, a non-profit store where area teachers can obtain materials free of charge for their students in need. Last year the Panthers collected more than 32,000 school supplies for Classroom Central. For more information, visit www.panthers.com

Existing-home sales in the second quarter showed healthy gains from the first quarter in the vast majority of states, and price declines have increased affordability in most metro areas, according to the National Association of Realtors®.

Total state existing-home sales, including single-family and condo, rose 3.8 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.76 million units in the second quarter from 4.58 million units in the first quarter, but remain 2.9 percent below the 4.90 million-unit pace in the second quarter of 2008.

Thirty-nine states experienced sales increases from the first quarter, and nine states were higher than a year ago; the District of Columbia showed both quarterly and annual rises.

I am not saying there is a storm on the way but it is much better to figure out a plan of action for severe storms now than later. A few basic supplies and a little thought on your part will probably save you a lot of headaches later on. A link to FEMA's website is included below where you can read basic information on hurricanes so you know when to be concerned as well as get tips on how to prepare best in case a hurricane heads your way.

The end of summer is here. I know that unoffically summer doesn't end until Labor Day but ask any school kid any America and I think they will have a different answer. With most schools starting back over the next week, it is time to wrap up the back to school shopping and start getting to bed a little earlier. Here are links to the Cabarrus County Schools and Kannapolis City Schools calendars if you need a refresher on when to show up at the bus stop.

Existing-home sales in the second quarter showed healthy gains from the first quarter in the vast majority of states, and price declines have increased affordability in most metro areas, according to the latest survey results from the National Association of Realtors®.

Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist, said the sales gain appears to be sustainable.  "With low interest rates, lower home prices and a first-time buyer tax credit, we've been seeing healthy increases in home sales, which are a hopeful sign for the economy," he said.

Distressed sales - foreclosures and short sales - accounted for 36 percent of transactions in the second quarter, which continued to weigh down median home prices because they typically are sold at a 15 to 20 percent discount; first-time buyers accounted for one-third of transactions.  The national median existing single-family price was $174,100, which is 15.6 percent below the second quarter of 2008.  The median is where half sold for more and half sold for less.
