Communities Surrounding Cabarrus County

China Grove
China Grove is a small community in Rowan County located between Landis and Salisbury. The community was named China Grove in the mid-1800’s after a popular grove of Chinaberry trees in town. The town of more than 3,500 people has a thriving historic district as well as several new developments. Many residents of China Grove commute to Cabarrus County and other parts of Rowan County to work.

Lake Norman
Lake Norman is the largest body of fresh water in North Carolina. The lake was created after the construction of the Cowan’s Ford Dam on the Catawba River in the 1960’s. The popularity of Lake Norman has also contributed to the growth of the neighboring communities of Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson and Mooresville. Many residents of these areas choose to commute to Charlotte and surrounding areas for work so they can maintain the easy living lifestyle of the lake for their weekend enjoyment. 

Landis
Located north of Kannapolis in Rowan County, Landis began as a mill town, named after Judge K. Landis. The Linn Mill was founded in 1900 by Columbus A. Linn and his sons, who were prominent landowners in the area. The Linn Brothers Store was nicknamed the "Busy Store" due to it being the hub of the town. Landis was incorporated one year after the opening of the Mill and is now home to roughly 3,500 residents. Three historic buildings: The Landis Depot, The Old Post Office, and The Town Jail are still present today in the downtown area. The real estate market in Landis offers homebuyers an abundance of affordable single family homes in charming neighborhoods.

Locust
Conveniently located 25 miles east of downtown Charlotte, Locust is just 11 miles off I-485 in western Stanly County on NC 24/27. The City of Locust is still a crossroads today, due to being centrally located between the larger cities of Charlotte, Concord, Albemarle, and Monroe. Located in southern Cabarrus County, at the junction of NC 24/27 and NC 601, Midland started as a railroad town in the early 1900s and was later incorporated in 2000. Midland derived its name from being the central point on the rail system between Charlotte and Oakboro. Midland is proud to be home to one of the oldest Arbors in the state, circa 1780, located at the Bethel United Methodist Church. Midland is served by the Cabarrus County School System and has one community park and one public library. The real estate market in Midland is packed with single family homes in established and newer communities, all taking pride in the preservation of their rural surroundings. Mt. Pleasant
Founded in 1848, Mt. Pleasant is located about 12 miles from the city of Concord, in the eastern portion of Cabarrus County, on Hwy 73 and Mount Pleasant Road. The estimated population is around 2,000 people and was originally settled by Germans who migrated from Pennsylvania. Mt. Pleasant is home to the Eastern Cabarrus Historic Museum, which provides a look into Cabarrus County's history from the mid-1800s to the early 1900s. Mt. Pleasant also offers its residents a community park and local library. Mt. Pleasant's real estate market has many multi-family units, single family homes in both established and new neighborhoods and subdivisions, along with many homes on acres of land.

University Area
The university area of Charlotte is located just slightly south of Concord in northeastern Mecklenburg County and is home to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. This area has experienced tremendous growth in recent years as new people move to the region. In addition to UNCC, the University Area is home to Carolinas Medical Center-University, TIAA CREF and Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre. There is convenient access to Interstates 85 and 485 as well as Highways 29 and 49 making this an easy place to live, work or play.
